Babysitter – Monochrome Madness Week 36

Horse intereacting with pony, dark sepia treatmentClick on image for larger view.

Here is Oporto with one of his little pony friends. He was a feisty late-gelded stallion (never “just” a gelding) but acted like a solicitous mother mare around the ponies. They adored Oporto, but were a little rough on him. This pony had just finished biting him on the shoulder, and you can see Oporto is gently twanging a fold of skin on the pony’s neck to remind him to be a little more gentle. I loved watching them all hanging out together…there was always something going on!

I chose this image as my submission to Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness Challenge, week 36, published today. Click here to head on over to Leanne’s blog to check out all the great submissions.

    • Thank you. πŸ™‚ I give a lot of my images an artistic treatment, I like the idea of giving them a painterly feel. In many action shots one doesn’t always have the luxury of choosing the background, and in this instance the background was cluttered and unsightly. So I dropped the background out and replaced it with at least two of my custom textures. I really liked how it came out looking like a white-washed wall, the kind you see in Spain and Portugal — Oporto was Lusitano (the ancient breed of Portugal) so it was highly appropriate, I felt.

      • Okay. Thanks for that information. I’ve worked with creating some backdrop, or background material, but didn’t realize it could actually be inserted as a replacement for something that already existed. Learning something new everyday! You did a beautiful job with this photo background!
