Two more characters to join the great blue heron and sandhill crane in Bird portraits 1, part of my bird series.

Top: Wild greylag goose (Anser anser)
Bottom: Great cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo)

  1. Really stunning work, Katrina. The stubby beak of the goose makes me laugh, but the pose of the Great Cormorant and the detail of the scale-like feathers is outstanding. I have been compiling a variety of images of this seabird for a future Bird Photo Challenge. They are quite majestic birds in their glossy black plumage and their striking blue eyes.


    • Thank you, Chris. I appreciate it. 🙂 I’ve always thought of cormorants as somewhat mysterious birds. They look a little odd in the air, they tend to be shy, and appear to be just plain ol’ black…then if you can get up close to them you see that glorious eye color and the exquisite body plumage. Around here I don’t often get an opportunity to get up close with them. I look forward to seeing your cormorants. 🙂
