SPEED – Monochrome Madness Week 38

This is Espada, a lovely black Andalusian mare, channeling a racing Thoroughbred. I love the sense of raw energy in this image.

Hop on over to Leanne Cole’s blog to check out all the submissions for this week’s Monochrome Madness Challenge. The variety of styles is always really interesting!

    • Thank you so much, Kaz. Yikes, setting a precedent puts the pressure on! So what is it that Oprah said? Surround yourself only with those who will take you higher..? I interpret that as surrounding myself with people who are better than me so that I can learn from them and aspire to their level…:-)

      • Smart move. 🙂

Pressure can be good, as long as it’s not excessive. It keeps you on your toes, challenges you to keep growing. It’s too easy to think “Things are going well, okay to slack off a bit.” That’s good once in a while, but if it becomes a habit you end up in a rut.

That inspiration thing was something I learned long before I heard Oprah’s comment. For years, when I rode my own horses, I frequently tried to do so when better riders than me were working their horses. It really sharpens your game — in all aspects of daily life.

      • Funny at a conference I went to a few weeks ago they said the same thing surround yourself with people that you would like to be like or that offer you something to aspire to… Good on you Katrina, its so easy to be complacent but if you really want to succeed that’s what you have to do to go that extra mile 🙂

      • It’s a mindset as much as anything else. You sort of improve by osmosis, lol! Of course, you have to go out and make a point of finding the right environment, but it’s funny, for me surrounding myself with the right people is so energizing, it just feels like the right place to be. And it’s not necessarily that I want to be LIKE them, most of the time I want to be different from them, but it’s the state of their energy that I tap into — tho not in a parasitic way — to help me step up to the next level. The universal consciousness, maybe? Does that make any sense to you?

      • Entirely I hear you. In that vane I’m hoping to meet up with a couple of other photographers later next year for a few days of doing nothing but take photos, laugh and learn as each have something different to offer with their talent 🙂

      • What a great idea! I’d like to do something like that. I’d love to go on some of those photo trips, but my current budget won’t allow for that! But getting together with other photographers for a photo marathon is certainly potentially doable… I expect you will have a great time!
